Adam's been spending a lot of time outside with Alanna, but not usually from this vantage point. He snickers a little as he watches people pass below.

And maybe there's a smile back, even as he drops her hand and sits on the ground.


"Just so long as she doesn't want to hire me."

[called_lioness]

"To do what?" warily.

[last_adam]

"She keeps threatening to hire me as a stripper. Or did. I suspect that Alanna may have threatened her, because she hasn't in a while."

[called_lioness]

"...Should I worry, Adam?"

[last_adam]

". . . I'm not going to strip for you, Lucy. sorry."

[called_lioness]

"That wasn't," she says with a face, "what I meant. I meant about her planning the party at all." She considers. "And also wanting to plan Caspian's."

[last_adam]

"Be afraid. Be VERY afraid."

[called_lioness]

"I was afraid of that," she sighs, mournfully, but she's still smiling.

Funny, that.

"I'll worry about it once I figure out what to do about fifty other things, I suppose."

[last_adam]

"Like a dress?"

The smiles back now, and bigger.

[called_lioness]

Watch her eyes get wide.

"...Oh, bugger."

[last_adam]

"You can't go nude to your wedding, Lucy."

There's a laugh, then, and he nudges her.

"Much as Caspian would then be able to match you with his towels."

[called_lioness]

She blushes.

A little.

"I hadn't thought that far ahead, though I wasn't planning to be nude."

[last_adam]

"I'm sure the masses will be upset."

He pulls his legs up and wraps his arms around them.

[called_lioness]

"The masses who were going to come to my wedding to see me nude?" she asks, amused, and leans back on her elbows as she watches him.

[last_adam]

"Mhmmm. They'll be horified to find you covered up in a beautiful dress."

[called_lioness]

"Don't even know where I'll get one," she muses, and shrugs, a little.

"Don't have a clue about most of the wedding. Or marriage, I suppose, for that matter."

[last_adam]

"You'll be fine."

And there's not even a hint of wavering or joking in his voice.

[called_lioness]

"I think so," she says quietly and reaches out to touch his arm, briefly, in gratitude.

"Thank you. For--for this, and for everything."

[last_adam]

Adam shrugs, and leans back in the grass.

"Dunno that there's anything to thank me for."

[called_lioness]

There are times when you don't say anything.

And then there are times when you're not entirely certain how many more times you'll see or hug or be able to tell someone the things you don't say, so Lucy looks over and smiles.

"If I hadn't loved you, Adam, I couldn't love him as well as I do. If I didn't have you, I wouldn't have known what matters most. If I didn't have you, I don't think I'd have shared as much with Caspian as I have. And if I didn't have you, I wouldn't be me." She leans over and presses a kiss to his forehead before sitting up. "I do love you, you know. And always will. And I thank you for that, and everything else."

He nods, still staring up at the sky, and smiling at her as her face briefly passes his.

"Suppose it's as good a time as any, then.'

[called_lioness]

"--I'm not taking any more dragons."

[last_adam]

"How about a babysitting gig?"

[called_lioness]

Lucy is silent, for a few moments, and the way she's turned, Adam can't see her face.

"I should like that very, very much," is the soft response he finally gets.

He opens his mouth a few times to say something, and in the end, he says nothing.
