Adam's been spending a lot of time outside with Alanna, but not usually from this vantage point. He snickers a little as he watches people pass below.

"How about a babysitting gig?"

[called_lioness]

Lucy is silent, for a few moments, and the way she's turned, Adam can't see her face.

"I should like that very, very much," is the soft response he finally gets.

[last_adam]

He opens his mouth a few times to say something, and in the end, he says nothing.

[called_lioness]

When she looks back, she looks

tired and happy and sad and not quite there, but mostly--mostly she looks happy.

"In fact, I'll insist on it. All the more reason, I suppose, that I'll just have to stay here for quite a while yet."

[last_adam]

"That sounds quite excellent to me."

[called_lioness]

"Lovely," she says, picking up some grass and tossing it at him with a smile.

"Congratulations."

[last_adam]

"Thanks."

He beams.

"Not quite used to telling people yet."

[called_lioness]

"That's why you have nine months, to get used to telling people and the idea," she grins. "And then you have to get used to actually having the child."

[last_adam]

He laughs, but it's a little less enthusiastic this time.

"Think we will?"

[called_lioness]

Lucy looks at him for several moments before asking, "Do I think you'll get used to it, or do I think you'll be good parents?"

"I meant the first, but either, really."

[called_lioness]

"I think you rather get used to it when there's a small person there all the time. As for the second...I'll tell you a secret," she says, and rests her chin on her hand. "Narnia was the place I'd most choose to be, of all the places I was in life, but it wasn't very advanced. Females of all races died in childbirth. I was often called, when they were in labor, to be there, because of my cordial. And I have seen many, many women and men about to become parents, because of that. I don't think one of them was a better father than you can be, or a better mother than Alanna can be. And I don't think either of you will let the other do anything but their best."

Adam bites his lip and, there in the field, he reaches out for Lucy's hand.



"I think I needed to hear that."

[called_lioness]

"That's why I told you," she says, simply, and squeezes the hand.

"If I can help, you or Alanna, let me?"

[last_adam]

"Of course."

A pause, and a laugh.


"Well, I'll try."

[called_lioness]

"Good enough," she says cheerfully. "It will all be perfect, you'll see. And while you're waiting to see..." She sighs, a little. "Suppose I'll need a dress. And to figure out if I can face being Mrs. X."

[last_adam]

Adam smirks.


"Caspian could always take Pevensie."

[called_lioness]

Lucy...just eyes him.

"He...could?" It's almost not a question.

[last_adam]

"Well, it's a NAME. Ten isn't a name. You might as well be Mrs. Lucy Pi."

[called_lioness]

"...You have a point," she concedes.

And looks a little intrigued.

"I do like my name, really. And a name is much better than a number."

[last_adam]

"It is."

Adam's firm on this.

"Caspian Pevensie. It's got rather a ring to it."

[called_lioness]

"Very British," she agrees.

"...Think he'll agree?"

[last_adam]

"I don't know. Depends on how modern a mindset he has.




Or how much alcohol you give him first."

[called_lioness]

"I should probably mention his bachelor party Lilly wants for him at the same time," she laughs.

"That very well may guarantee it."
