When Adam wakes again, it's day, and the flat is filled with light. He's alone in the bed, but it seems like something is missing. He hears noises coming from the kitchen, though, somebody's in the apartment.

"Hello?"

"That doesn't mean that it's alright for someone to hurt you like this."

[last_adam]

Adam shrugs.

"But I hurt him."

[called_lioness]

She rubs forehead. "Yes, but Adam, that doesn't mean that he should hurt you back, and it especially doesn't mean he should hurt you as badly as this."

[last_adam]

"He was just trying to ensure that I wouldn't do it again."

[called_lioness]

"That doesn't make what he did right."

[last_adam]

"You don't even know what happened."

[called_lioness]

"No. But nothing could justify that."

[last_adam]

"How do you know? Maybe I killed his brother or something."

[called_lioness]

"Well, did you kill his brother?" Her tone is rather reasonable.

[last_adam]

He flushes.

"No. I-"

He shakes his head.

[called_lioness]

"You don't have to tell me."

[last_adam]

"You deserve to know, though."

[called_lioness]

"If you want to tell me. It's alright if you don't."

[last_adam]

"I know."

He takes a few deep breaths, considering. But it's better, really. It's better that she knows.

"Itrickedhisboyfriend."

[called_lioness]

Lucy considers this. "Tricked him how?"

[last_adam]

He sighs. He'd started. Might as well go all the way.

"I tricked him into sleeping with me."

He pulls away from Lucy, leaning back against the wall.

[called_lioness]

"Oh." Lucy bites her lip for a moment, studying Adam. "Why?"

[last_adam]

Adam closes his eyes, and nods his head.

"It was a challenge. He thought he was better than me. I don't know what happened. I couldn't help-

No, that's not true. I wanted to. I got a thrill out of it."

[called_lioness]

After a moment, "You don't like yourself very much, do you?"

[last_adam]

"Why should I?"

[called_lioness]

"You know, I imagine I could give you a dozen different reasons for why you should, and it wouldn't change your mind about it right now." She reaches out and pushes his hair back for a moment before dropping her hand into her lap again. "I still don't think he should've hurt you like this."

[last_adam]

Adam can't answer, he just slumps down in the bed, and when he starts to laugh, it sounds more like crying.

[called_lioness]

Worriedly, "Are you alright?"

Which is still a silly question, but comparitively speaking, perhaps, it's not as silly.

[last_adam]

The laughing continues, and he wheezes in breath.

"Yeah, I'm just great. I got the crap beaten out of me last night, and my only friend who hasn't left the bar is afraid I'm not his friend anymore, and I'm here in bed with somebody who's taking care of me and caring about me and says that I don't deserve what I do, and I think I honestly like you, and you're a girl."

[called_lioness]

"I'm sorry, Adam." Slight smile. "Though I can't do anything about the last bit, I'm afraid."
