When Adam wakes again, it's day, and the flat is filled with light. He's alone in the bed, but it seems like something is missing. He hears noises coming from the kitchen, though, somebody's in the apartment.

"Hello?"

Lucy hurries in, muttering a mild curse when she drops the pill bottle she's carrying--second time she's done that--before smiling slightly at him. "You're up."

"I'm up. I'm up and- OH, I'm sore. What happened?"

[called_lioness]

"...You were...in a fight," she answers, deciding that's not a bad way to put it, before sitting on the edge of the bed. "You'll probably be sore for a while, yes."

[last_adam]

"Where was I in a fight? How did I get here? Why are you here with me?"

[called_lioness]

She shouldn't be amused. Him not remembering is a bad thing. But still. "By the lake. And I brought you when you asked me too. And I'm here because you're hurt."

[last_adam]

"By the la-

Oh. Oh. Oh shit. You shouldn't have seen that. You shouldn't be here."

He panics, and tries to get out of the bed.

[called_lioness]

"Adam, you will sit still and not move." That is a tone she doesn't use often.

[last_adam]

"But I have to get back, and you shouldn't, and-"

He gets cut short as she gives him a look he hadn't seen since his third form teacher.

"Okay. So I'll sit."

[called_lioness]

"Good." She helps him into a more comfortable position, shifting pillows, and tucking the blankets again. "And if you tell me I shouldn't be here again, I imagine we'll have a row, so don't."

[last_adam]

"Well, I certainly wouldn't want to row with you."

He smiles at her.

"What did you see last night?"

[called_lioness]

"Him hurting you."

[last_adam]

"Shit."

[called_lioness]

"I'm sorry I wasn't there sooner," she says after a moment, offering him a glass of water.

[last_adam]

He takes the glass from her, grateful for something to do with his hands, and the cool water against his rough throat.

"You shouldn't have been there at all. I'm sorry you had to see that."

[called_lioness]

"It was far from the worst thing I've ever seen, Adam. And I'm glad I was there."

[last_adam]

"Well, thank you. I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't shown up."

[called_lioness]

She shrugs slightly and offers him two painkillers. "I didn't do much."

[last_adam]

Adam eyes the painkillers warily, but takes them. They go down without a problem, not burning like what she had tried to give him the night before.

"You got me here. You- you stayed with me. Last night. Didn't you?"

[called_lioness]

Lucy nods. "Yes. I did."

[last_adam]

"Thank you."

He leans forward, and places a light kiss on her forehead.

[called_lioness]

"You're welcome." Small shrug. "Anyone else would've done the same thing, really."

[last_adam]

"No, they wouldn't have, but that's okay."

He eyes her.

"You can go, if you want. I mean, I'm sure I can take care of myself now."

[called_lioness]

She tilts her head slightly. "Do you want me to go?"

[last_adam]

"It would be better for you."

[called_lioness]

"Because it's so very difficult for me to sit here and keep you company, of course."
