He doesn't need to for the protection to work, but it makes Paul feel better, so he does it. Paul has long ago fallen asleep, and Adam watches his deep and steady breathing. Paul had been nervous, all of his emotions bleeding through, making Adam shaky. It amused Adam to see the boy like that, long dead and still afraid to die. Adam yawns, and looks at his watch. Time doesn't seem to have much meaning here, but if it did, he'd have been long asleep himself. In the bed, Paul shakes and turns restlessly. A hand on his arm, and he stills. His skin is cold. Adam pulls the blankets tight around Paul's shoulders, and leans back in the bed. He closes his eyes, just for a moment.
Even in sleep, Adam watches.
