(no subject)

Adam wakes in the middle of the night. Thirsty, having to use the bathroom, owner of a skull splitting headache. He blinks a few times, stumbles out of bed, and uses the bathroom. It's probably about two, maybe three - in Milliways, it's always hard to tell. Late, though, regardless. He's almost already back asleep by the time he returns to the bed.

Which is not empty.

In his sleep-boggled state he'd missed the fact that, at some point during the night, Lucy had come up to the room. Carefully, so carefully, he crawls back into bed, and curls up behind her, wrapping his arms around he. And if he leans into her neck and whispers I love you, well, that can be blamed on the early hour.

She is the one holding him and touching him. And so she does notice, as her fingers fingers are drifting up again and across his shoulder blades, and her tongue is brushing against his.

"Oh," again, even as her right hand moves around and rests on his chest, then smoothing against ribs, then, "Adam, I..." And she doesn't know how to finish that sentence. Doesn't know what to do, except she thinks she should pull away, and she thinks she really doesn't want to.

"I--I don't know," and there are many ways to finish that sentence, all that would be true. "What to do," or "how," or, "if I should leave," and probably more.

That's rather close. And she might help him so it's closer yet.

"Thank you." Quietly, as her breathing slows a bit, and her head rests on his shoulder.
